The SWOT program is led by Oceanic Society, a U.S. based non-profit organization. The SWOT database is managed, housed, and made publicly available by Duke University’s OBIS-SEAMAP, a premiere global repository for marine geospatial data. We also partner with the IUCN-SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group (MTSG) to provide sea turtle data for Red List and other status assessments. And, the SWOT program is made possible through collaboration with growing international team of organizations, scientists, and conservationists who contribute to and use SWOT’s products.

Oceanic Society

America’s oldest non-profit organization dedicated to ocean conservation, Oceanic Society manages and leads the SWOT Program. Oceanic Society’s mission is to improve ocean health by deepening the connections between people and nature to address the root cause of its decline: human behavior. Oceanic Society has supported and led marine species conservation programs worldwide for nearly 50 years.

OBIS-SEAMAP, Duke University

OBIS-SEAMAP (Ocean Biogeographical Information System - Spatial Ecological Analysis of Megavertebrate Populations) is part of the Marine Geospatial Ecology Lab at Duke University and a premiere global repository for geospatial data on marine species. OBIS-SEAMAP hosts, manages, and maintains the online SWOT database and mapping application.

IUCN-SSC Marine Turtle Specalist Group

The IUCN-SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group (MTSG) is part of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Comprised of more than 300 expert members in over 80 countries, the MTSG is the global authority on marine turtle research and conservation, and a founding partner of the SWOT Program.
